Ivonne's Story
Ivonne is a passionate Spanish teacher who has spent over 16 years helping children and adults from diverse cultural backgrounds learn to speak, understand, and love the Spanish language.
Born and raised in Colombia, Ivonne holds a Bachelor of Education from La Salle University and brings a deep connection to the language that goes far beyond grammar and vocabulary. She also holds a Diploma of Information Technology (Advanced Networking and Cloud Engineering) from TAFE, and is Blue Card approved.
Ivonne has taught over 200 students across private 1:1 lessons, small group programs, school tutoring, and corporate workshops. Her students range from 5-year-olds learning through songs and games, to Year 12 students preparing for their final exams, to adults planning trips to South America or needing Spanish for their career.
What sets Ivonne apart is the warmth and personal attention she brings to every lesson. She does not believe in memorising word lists or drilling grammar out of context. Her approach is built on natural language acquisition: students start listening, understanding, and speaking from the very first lesson.
How Ivonne Teaches
At ¡Chao! Learn Spanish, lessons are built around meaningful communication. Students learn through songs, stories, movement, games, role-play, and real-life situations.
For children, this means learning Spanish in a playful and nurturing way, much like they learned their first language. For teens and adults, it means building confidence, fluency, and practical communication skills while still receiving clear structure and guidance.
Classes are small, supportive, and carefully designed so each student feels seen, encouraged, and confident to participate. Hispanic culture is part of every lesson: music, food, traditions, celebrations, social customs, and the real-world situations that bring language to life.
Ivonne assesses each student’s starting level during the first lesson through practical and interactive activities, including question games, number activities, simple conversation, listening tasks, vocabulary checks, and short written tasks. From there, she adapts every lesson to their real ability, goals, and confidence level.
