What a Typical Tutoring
Session Looks Like

Assessment And Goal Setting
Every new student begins with a free introductory session. Ivonne uses practical, interactive activities to assess your child's current level across speaking, listening, reading, writing, pronunciation, and grammar. She also considers their previous exposure to Spanish, whether they have studied it before, speak it at home, or have had no contact with the language at all. From there, she builds a learning plan that matches their real ability and targets the areas where they need the most support.

Weekly Lessons
Standard sessions run for 60 minutes, with shorter sessions available for younger children. Each lesson follows a clear structure but is never rigid. A typical session might begin with a warm-up conversation, move into targeted work on a grammar concept or vocabulary set, include a listening or reading exercise, and finish with speaking practice or assignment review. The balance shifts depending on whether the student has an upcoming assessment, is working through a difficult topic, or simply needs more conversation practice.

Homework and Progress Tracking
All students receive homework or practice activities after each lesson, adapted to their age, level, and goals. This might include vocabulary revision, grammar exercises, listening practice, writing tasks, pronunciation drills, or short speaking activities. Progress is tracked through lesson participation, practical activities, and improvement in communication. Ivonne can provide informal feedback throughout the term and an optional end-of-term progress report if parents request it.
Student Results

Yolanda enrolled with Ivonne with no prior Spanish experience after her school cancelled its German program. Over four months of two to three sessions per week, she progressed from a complete beginner to an A+ grade. She continued studying with Ivonne twice a week from Year 10 through to graduation at Brisbane State High School, achieving excellent results in her final assessments. Her mother noted that Ivonne’s teaching methods, patience, and encouragement were the foundation of Yolanda’s success, not only in her language skills but in her personal confidence.
At Brisbane Grammar School, another student maintained an A grade throughout his Spanish studies under Ivonne’s guidance. His parent described Ivonne’s teaching as clear, fun, and engaging, using storytelling, cultural examples, and games to keep lessons interesting. The student developed a genuine love for the language and culture.
Natalia, a Year 12 student from Samford Valley, achieved excellent results in her Spanish assessments and became a confident public speaker under Ivonne’s guidance. Her family noticed a significant improvement in her conversational Spanish and overall confidence. The experience was positive enough that Natalia’s brother also began studying with Ivonne.

Is This Right for Your Child?
Ivonne works best with students who are willing to participate, practise between lessons, and build their skills gradually. She brings patience, warmth, and structure, but steady progress requires commitment from the student as well.
This tutoring is designed for students who want to improve their school grades and feel more confident in class, who are preparing for QCE, VCE, IB, DELE, or SIELE exams, who have switched to Spanish from another language and need to close the gap quickly, who are heritage or bilingual learners looking to strengthen their formal Spanish skills, or who simply want to enjoy learning Spanish rather than dreading it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly will my child see improvement?
It depends on their starting level, how often they attend, and how consistently they practise between sessions. Some students see noticeable improvement within a few weeks, particularly in confidence and speaking. For significant grade improvements, most families find that consistent weekly sessions over a school term produce strong results. Yolanda, for example, went from zero Spanish to an A+ in four months with two to three sessions per week.
Can Ivonne help with a specific upcoming assessment?
Yes. If your child has an oral presentation, written assignment, or exam coming up, sessions can be focused entirely on preparation for that specific task. Ivonne is familiar with the assessment structures and marking criteria across QCE, VCE, and IB Spanish.
My child has never studied Spanish before. Is that okay?
Absolutely. Many of Ivonne’s students begin as complete beginners. The introductory session is specifically designed to assess where your child is starting from and build a plan that meets them at their level.
Does Ivonne communicate with my child's school teacher?
Ivonne does not liaise directly with school teachers as standard practice, but she is happy to align her lessons with any feedback, curriculum outlines, or assessment schedules that parents share with her.
Is online tutoring as effective as in person?
For most students, yes. Ivonne has been teaching online for years and her lessons are designed to be just as interactive and engaging on screen as they are in person. Online sessions work particularly well for older students and for families outside the Brisbane area.
